St Mark's Basilica Panoramic

I finally got around to stitching another old panoramic together. This one is of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice from my 2003 trip. It's a ridiculously large one of 36 images with my Nikon D100. It's multiple rows but stitching it together wasn't a problem because I was shooting at 200mm so the change in the angle vertically was pretty small and very little distortion from the lens itself. I don't really have a use for such a big image but the amount of detail is amazing. Here is a zoomed in version of the second arch from the left. As always, clicking on any images to get a larger version.

Here's a link to the English version of the official web site for St. Marks:

Landscape Arch HDR

After snooping around the pictures from my last trip to Arches National Park, I came across a set of images which I intended to use as an HDR test and then forgot about them. It's a tough shot looking right towards the sun at Landscape Arch but it was worth a try.

One of Our Arches is Missing

Just heard that Wall Arch in Arches National Park collapsed recently. The CNN article says it was the 12th largest in the park. When I heard an arch fell, I was sure it was going to be Landscape arch. It took me a minute to remember exactly where Wall Arch was located. It's in narrow spot on the trail and it's difficult to back up enough to get the whole arch in frame. This image is from January of 2007 and was taken at 12mm on my Nikon D100.

Lower Falls from Uncle Tom's Trail in Yellowstone

Yet another waterfall picture from my recent trip. This is from the bottom of Uncle Tom's Trail in Yellowstone's canyon area. There are 329 steps down to the platform and not too difficult if you take your time. This was taken with my neutral density filter to slow things down by 6 stops.

Nesting Brandt's Cormorant

My first trip to the Oregon coast made me a big fan of lighthouses. Unfortunately, the fog just wouldn't lift on this particular day at Yaquina Head so had to find other things to photograph. I originally took this shot because I liked the rock the birds were sitting on. I didn't notice the nests until later when I was cropping the image. Yet another luck wildlife shot.
